A look behind our fashion shoots

A look behind our fashion shoots

Everything we do at The Global Bohemian is rooted in creativity and expression — and that very much includes our fashion shoots. They’re one of the most fun parts of the work.

Each shoot is about capturing something real: bohemian spirit, individuality, and sometimes a little bad-girl energy. And above all — they’re always fun.

From photographer to founder

Before The Global Bohemian, I began my career as a fashion and music photographer in the early 2000s, working with bands like The Libertines and publications including Dazed. That world still shapes the visual identity of the brand today — bohemian at heart, with a subtle rock-and-roll edge.

When I launched the brand, it felt natural to dust off my Nikon and return to those creative roots. My style has always leaned towards saturated colour and real-life backdrops rather than studio sets. Real spaces carry atmosphere and story — which feels true to both the clothing and the women who wear it.

The faces behind The Global Bohemian

The Global Bohemian has always been about expressive, confident, individual women — so choosing models who embody that feels essential. Miz and Icey both bring something distinct, and their differences are exactly what makes them perfect for the brand.

Miz

Miz has been a friend for over 20 years and was actually the original model for my fashion photography degree show. She brings a playful-meets-rebellious energy that reflects the soft boho-rock spirit The Global Bohemian was built on.

I love styling her in clashing colours, bold palettes, and edgier looks. Outside shoots, Miz runs True North Tattoo Studio with her team of artists — and that creative fearlessness shows up in every frame.

Icey

Icey brings a classical Persian beauty and a grounded elegance to the brand. As a petite, curvy woman with strong personal style, she reflects the body diversity our clothing is designed for.

She naturally carries the more grown-up side of The Global Bohemian, and I often style her with black to show how our pieces integrate into everyday wardrobes. Icey also runs Icey’s Beauty Lounge — a true powerhouse, energy she brings into every shoot.

Sourcing our locations

All our shoots take place in independent creative venues across Birmingham, chosen for their character, interiors, and quirkiness. From vintage workshops to stately homes to local cafés, each space is selected to visually support the collection story.

We’re endlessly grateful to the venues that have welcomed and supported the brand.

A day in the life of a shoot

Every shoot begins with a visual idea — the mood, colours, and feeling I want to capture — followed by finding the right location. For example, our Bali Vibes collection was shot in a tropical plant shop to echo the collection’s atmosphere.

I always visit locations beforehand to map out possible set-ups and maximise visual variety on the day. Once the space is set, I coordinate with Miz and Icey — who generously give their time around running their own businesses, something I’m always deeply thankful for.

Before shoot day, I create a mood board and look book so we share a clear visual direction.

Shoot days start early: unpacking garments, building rails of looks, setting lights and laptop. It usually takes half an hour to settle into creative flow before the real rhythm begins.

While I plan shot lists and compositions, I prefer to work spontaneously with Miz and Icey, allowing them to bring their own movement and ideas. Often the best images come in the unscripted moments and when we’re having a laugh.

Real women deserve to be seen

Afterwards, images are edited for colour depth and light skin retouching only — removing highlights or temporary blemishes. I never alter body shape or identity.

The intention is always the same as with our clothing: to honour individuality, authenticity, and natural beauty in the most ethical way.
