Introducing our new embroidered crepe silk saree fabrics
At The Global Bohemian we’re always on the search for new fabrics to create our designs from – and of course they are always ethical and sustainable. That’s why we’ve been working on introducing the new crepe saree fabric – these reclaimed sarees carry a luxury feel and are adorned with embroidered threads and motifs throughout them. The fact that they are reclaimed means they’ve seen a lifetime of movement, celebration and ritual – and that’s exactly why we love them.
Each saree is completely unique, and they feature thread work in silver and gold that is stitched intricately across the whole piece or sometimes just a bordered edge. Embellished motifs can be found across them, sometimes these are vibrant, sometimes they are very subtle – but with each piece you’ll get a little glimmer of sparkle when you wear it.
The selection process
We work carefully with our solo partnership in Pushkar to choose the sarees we want to keep in their original state and the ones we want to then further tie dye – more on that later. Each saree is then quality checked and we choose the selections we want for each of our designs. Nothing is left to chance at The Global Bohemian – we match every piece of fabric to the designs, so we have full control over the final style.

Up-cycling with natural tie dye techniques
We love a bit of tie dye at The Global Bohemian (as you’ll notice in our Bali Vibes collection) in fact we love it so much we decided to introduce it to our silks collection. We’ve taken the crepe silk sarees and transformed them into amazing works of art – each piece completely unique.
The process involves using cord to tie the saree tightly and create beautiful individual patterns. The dye is then applied and once dry the organic looking patterns then stand out. Each colour works with the original saree colour underneath to create a beautiful fusion of colour – and of course, because we’re using the embroidered saree the original motifs and threading can be still seen throughout. These new pieces really do add sparkle to your bohemian wardrobe.

Up-cycling twice adds a new story to our pieces
Most upcycling stops at reuse. We go further — what we call upcycling twice.
- First life: the original saree, hand-embroidered and worn
- Second life: reclaimed and re-designed into new bohemian styles
- Third expression: further tie-dyed to create a brand new story
By working with the fabrics in this way we get to honour their roots and allow them to evolve. It keeps precious silk in circulation, reduces textile waste, and creates one-of-a-kind piece that simply can’t be replicated.
A bohemian aesthetic that’s rooted in culture and created in colour
These crepe silk pieces sit beautifully within The Global Bohemian aesthetic — luxury that’s grounded and colour pops that echo our commitment to women who like to dress with edge. The addition of the embroidery adds that little bit of sparkle and it’s something we’ve been wanting to work with for a while – so we could create more evening pieces or for when you really want to wear something special. The result is a piece that has ancient roots but with a contemporary design.
New designs, new fabrics
These new fabrics also come with some new designs. You’ll start to see them make their way into our collections from March 2025. So, here’s a look at what’s new:
· Seraphina Maxi Dress – a beautiful full flowing maxi dress ready for spring/summer
· Zari Shirt – a cropped, boxy shirt to add some structure to your outfits
· Twilight Robe – the silk version of our bestselling Varanasi Robe
· Riya Tunic – a flowing cascade top with hi/lo hem

These styles will give you both relaxed flowing pieces to integrate into your wardrobe as well as some unique statement pieces. And, as always we only release a small collection each time. You’ll also notice with these that on each drop half of the collection will be in the original saree fabric and the other half in the tie dye technique.
